Pacha Wins Third Place in SXSW Community Film Screening

BALANCE Edutainment’s  short film The World’s Wildest Evolution of Dance placed THIRD at Rainforest Partnership’s FILMS FOR THE FORESTS 2016 in the Shorts Shorts category.

Rujuta Neve, Operations Coordinator of Rainforest Partnership  said, “The theater was packed, everybody loved your film! The manager said it was the biggest SXSW crowd they’d had all weekend.” The Director of the film, Allah El Henson, said. “I’m not here to teach; I’m here to remind people of their connectedness with nature.”

The World’s Wildest Evolution of Dance is featured in the forthcoming Animated Book, Pacha’s Pajamas: A Story Written Nature, in which Pacha performs in a tribute to the Youtube smash hit, Evolution of Dance. The film is split into three video segments that are displayed when the also forthcoming Pacha Alive app is directed over several images towards the end of the book. The Animated Book and the Pacha Alive app will be released on April 5th.

In the first two-thirds of the film,  Pacha is voiced by 13 year old United Nations youth ambassador, musician, and environmental activist Ta’Kaiya Blaney. Ta’Kaiya is also featured in HBO’s family film “Saving Our Tomorrow,” which will be released Earth Day 2015. In the speech at the end of the video, Pacha was voiced by Melia Gabrielle. Famed artist, Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def), narrates the video and is joined by Martin Luther King Jr. impersonator, Gerald Rivers, as Jag.

Ten year old Pacha is the final performer at PACHA JAMMA, the greatest festival in the history of the planet. Because no humans were invited, Pacha is disguised as a little gorilla. She enters the stage and performs an exciting evolution of dance routine, reminiscent of her favorite performer, Michael Jackson. At the peak of her show, she unmasks herself, surprising the stadium of plants and animals and sharing a message of hope!

The 44 second trailer below offers a surprise glimpse of the narrator.

The film was also screened at the San Diego Black Film Festival and the North Hollywood Cinefest.

The World’s Wildest Evolution of Dance was one of the lead videos for the synchronized global tree planting, One Billion Trees. A Native American tradition says when you take something from the Earth, you must offer something in return. The One Billion Trees campaign will be a global “give back” to the Earth, as an offering for all the planet gives humanity. The aim is to plant one billion trees and catalyze a cultural movement that addresses climate change through everyday actions for youth and families.
